Where we are: 2017 – cycle 2 – Week 2: Silence – day 2.
Have you ever engaged in conversation with someone and found yourself with an incredible urge to interrupt so you can get your own point of view across?
I have, it’s a very bad habit.
Think instead about remaining mostly silent while someone else is talking (except to indicate you understand them) and listening intently to what they have to say – make eye contact – before following up with a QUESTION about what they just said.
Once you fully understand the other person’s point of view – maybe comment or agree or suggest a different way.
More importantly you’re empowering others by allowing them a voice this makes them feel valued and listened to, it increases their view of you and in turn it increases your own self respect and confidence.
Interrupting someone during a conversation is a HABIT and as we are finding on the 13 virtues most of the things that are holding us back are habits just like this one.
Listenting to others gives you confidence – because you are getting the whole picture and people will respect and treat you differently.
Don’t be afraid, start using it today.
